Singapore has nearly completed its preparations for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) slated for June 5-16 in the city-state.

Chairman of the SEA Game Organising Committee Lim Teck Yin told the press on February 24 that preparation efforts are on schedule and a large number of tickets have already been sold for swimming, table tennis, and badminton.

Close to 4,900 athletes from 11 countries in the Southeast Asian region are expected to compete in the Kallang, Marina Bay and Singapore Expo sport complexes.

Some 790,000 tickets to the competitions will be made available for sale and half of the 36 sports will be free.

The total expense for this year’s event is estimated at 324.5 million SGD or around 239 million USD.

Nearly 17,000 locals in Singapore have registered to volunteer at the sporting event, the biggest of its kind in the region.-VNA
