Singaporean authorities confirmed that the new National Stadium is ready for the AFF Suzuki Cup tournament scheduled for November despite emerging concerns over the poor state of the pitch.

The 55,000 seat stadium, part of the 1 billion USD Sports Hub Complex, opened in June and has since been criticized after the leader of the Brazilian national squad complained of too much sand on the pitch.

A rugby game and a concert were postponed to give the grass a chance to grow in time for Southeast Asia’s top football tournament, which begins on November 22.

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) said it was ready to host Singapore’s three matches in the group stages of the tournament.

The Suzuki Cup is the biggest football competition in the region, drawing the participation of eight countries, namely Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

This year’s event is co-hosted by Singapore and Vietnam.-VNA
