Hanoi (VNA) – Six pygmy slow lorises have been rescued by Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) after they had been available for sale online for three days.

On August 23 an anonymous volunteer of the Hanoi ENV club discovered and reported the fact that pygmy slow lorises were for sale on an online pet forum.

The ENV reported the case to the HCM City police’s environment police and worked with police to catch the smugglers.

On August 27, ENV staff helped the police arrest the suspected smugglers and confiscated six pygmy slow lorises. The pygmy slow lorises are being taken care of by HCM City environment police before being transferred to the rescue centre.

Le Huynh Tri Ngoc, 28, and Mai Van Nhi, 26, resided in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, were detained for suspected smuggling of the wild animals.

Also with the support of volunteers, a yellow-cheeked gibbon was rescued in Dak Lak province last week.-VNA
