The environmental police and forest protection department in the southern province of Binh Duong on July 4 handed over six rare gibbons to a rescue centre for wild animals in Ho Chi Minh City ’s Cu Chi district.

Earlier on July 3, the environmental police officers raided an establishment in Binh Duong that was raising and holding caged wild animals illegally.

The establishment’s owner, 55-year-old Nguyen Thi Diep Hong, could not provide any documents verifying the origin of the gibbons.

Later the police also raided another illegal operation that was keeping 18 spotted deer and three rare peacocks, also in the same district.

The cases are pending further investigation.-VNA
