Hanoi (VNA) – The sixth Latin American Film Festival will be held at the National Cinema Centre in Hanoi from October 8-10, announced the organisers at a press conference on October 5.

Addressing the event, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera said that the festival is a chance for Latin American countries to introduce their culture to Vietnamese audiences, thus promoting exchange between the two nations.

The diplomat expressed her hopes that through the festival, Vietnamese people will gain a better understanding of the people and culture of Latin American countries.

The films to be screened at the event span a range of genres – including mainstream blockbusters, comedies, animations, documentaries, and period dramas – as well as from a variety of countries – Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The festival’s cinematic line-up includes “Macarana” (Uruguay), “El Benny” (Cuba), “Panama Canal Stories” (Panama), “Boy and the World” (Brazil), “Ilusiones SA - We Fulfil Your Dreams” (Mexico), “Bad Lucky Goat” (Colombia), “The House at the End of Time” (Venezuela), “Vinyl Days” (Argentina), “Ogu and Mampato in Rapa Nui” (Chile), and “Good Old Boys” (Peru). The films display the social lives and cultural characteristics of each nation and can help Vietnamese people understand the cultural diversity of Latin America.

The week will begin with “Maracana” from Uruguay, which features the football spirit of South America, especially Brazil and Uruguay – champions of the World Cup for many years now. The film also reflects a Latin American society in which poverty and inequality are still rife.
