Three fishermen in southern Soc Trang province towed the foreign yacht OCEAN – 140471 safely to Bai Gia border station on December 22 after detecting it was adrift 20 nautical miles from My Thanh seaport.

Kenneth Putney, a US national employed by a company in the Philippines, was the only person aboard. He said the yacht, which was travelling to Thailand from the Philippines, was towed by another boat.

Exposed to rough seas and strong waves, the rope broke, leaving the yacht adrift without communication since December 15. When discovered, it had run out of fuel and food, and Putney was exhausted.

Putney is now in a stable condition. The provincial border guards have informed the Foreign Ministry of the case.-VNA
