Son wins bronze at Chinese international chess open

Vietnamese Grandmaster Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son won a bronze medal with seven points at the first Qin Huangdao Open Chess Tournament, which ended in Qin Huangdao, Hebei , China on Oct. 7.

China 's GM Zhou Weiqi and Zhou Jianchao were first and second, respectively.

Son's teammate, GM Le Quang Liem, was not so successful, ranking only ninth with six points.

In the women's event, Hoang Thi Bao Tram placed 31st, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, 47th, and Nguyen Thi Thanh An, 75th.

The nine-round event offered a total of 87,000 USD in prize money. The winner took home 20,000 USD./.
