The honorary consul of South Africa in HCM City hosted an event to mark the country’s 24th Freedom Day on April 26.

This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Africa and the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela – the former President of South Africa.

In recent years, two-way trade grew from just over 700 million USD in 2012 to over 1.5 billion USD in 2017. The two sides have expressed determination to increase trade to 2 billion USD a year soon.

In the process of contributing to the cooperation between the two countries, Mdm. Do Thi Kim Lien - South Africa’s honorary consulate in HCM City, contributed in the finals of cooperation, connected and motivated the trade between Nam Phi – Viet Nam. In addition, she built an image of South Africa in Viet Nam.

At the ceremony, Mdm. Do Thi Kim Lien donated over 5 billion VND for building houses for poor people and social welfare beneficiaries and a kindergarten and a cultural house, providing scholarships to disadvantaged children and supporting underprivileged people in several cities and provinces in Vietnam.-VNA
