Southeast Asian countries intensify measures against COVID-19

Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesia’s Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has said that the city administration would limit public interaction as a precautionary measure to protect local residents from the COVID-19 outbreak.

Anies said his administration would follow the example of Singapore and Vietnam, which proactively restricted public gatherings before the virus spread widely.

The governor also said declared that priority will be given to carry out preventive measures to protect the public even though they may cause economic losses.

The Indonesian Government’s report on March 11 showed that 34 people were confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the country, including one death.

Along with Indonesia, other nations in Southeast Asia have taken measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

The Lao Ministry of Health has called on shopping centers, hotels and restaurants to continue to closely monitor their premises and customers in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The government is also urging everyone to be on their guard and take precautions such as distancing themselves from people with coughs.

In Malaysia, the Ministry of Health called for the postponement of mass gatherings after at least 12 coronavirus cases were linked to a three-day religious event in Kuala Lumpur.

So far, 149 infection cases have been reported in Malaysia./.
