The Southwestern region will continue to enhance the efficiency of State management on security and social order and effectively implement anti-crime action programmes, the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region announced at a meeting on October 31.

The meeting, held in Can Tho City, aimed to review the region’s security-defence efforts in 2014 and devise plans for the year to come.

Since the beginning of this year, the political, security and defence situation in the region has been stabilised. A number of measures were actively implemented to detect and deter hostile forces, contributing to the region’s socio-economic development.

However, the region saw an increase in crime, especially in drug smuggling and human trafficking.-VNA
