A cooperation document to this effect was signed between the Quang Namprovincial People’s Committee and PyD in Quang Nam province on April27. The 3.6 million EUR project which also covers Cambodia andEast Timor was designed to ensure the implementation of socio-economicrights and poverty reduction through a gender approach and improvementof social equality.
It covers improving living conditions ofproject beneficiaries, with a focus on the most disadvantaged, througheconomic initiatives in combination with the gender issue, promotingsustainable rural development and involvement of the beneficiaries andrelevant agencies and branches, and increasing initiatives on genderfairness, gender equality and domestic violence reduction.
Theproject targets promoting socio-economic development in rural areas,supporting for development of traditional trades, helping increaseincomes, reducing domestic violence and raising women’s role in thesociety, said Tran Minh Ca, Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincialPeople’s Committee.
In Quang Nam province, the project willbe carried out till 2014 in 10 communes of Duy Xuyen, Hiep Duc and PhuocSon districts.
Established in 1991, PyD is a non-governmentalorganisation. It helped carry out a project on enhancement of capacityand promotion of economic, microcredit opportunities and gender equalityplans in Vietnam from 2006-2010./.
