The Vietnam Football Federation is going to sign up Bruno Jose Garcia Formoso of Spain as the coach of the national futsal (indoor football) team.

Tran Anh Tu, head of the Vietnam futsal team at the 27th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Myanmar, said Formoso was expected to help Vietnam's team to compete at the continental level.

Formoso, 39, is a member and trainer of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (REEF). He won the Ramon Cobo, an award for the best REEF coach in the 2011-12 season.

The Spanish coach then guided Hangzhou Zhejiang Dragons and helped them take second place at the Chinese futsal championship. He finished a contract with Peru's national team in August.

Formoso will work on a three-year contract from 2014, replacing Sergio Gargelli of Italy who was blamed for the mistakes made in the final match of the biggest regional sport event that led to Vietnam's loss.

Gargelli had stated several times that Vietnam could defeat Thailand, until the final match of SEA Games on December 20 where Vietnam went down 1-8 to Thailand and took a silver medal. His contract, which ended after the Games, was not extended.-VNA
