Standard Chartered assists eye-care for Vietnamese kids

understanding for a project on preventing blindness for Vietnamese
children with a total funding of 630,000 USD.

children with a total funding of 630,000 USD.
The funding will go to the 4th phase of the programme entitled “Light is Belief”, which has been conducted over the last six years with support from the bank.
The money will go to a project on providing optical health care to children in the capital city over the next three years.
According to the Standard Chartered Vietnam’s General Director Ashok Sud, the vision-caring project will also seek to help the children in Ho Chi Minh City, through its partner – the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Standard Chartered has provided 1.5 million USD to support programmes to restore vision over the last six years, helping bring light to over 100,000 poor people in Vietnam.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan highlighted the importance of the bank’s project, saying that for everyone, their eyes are of very special importance, quoting the statistic that 80 percent of the information people receive is through the eyes.
The “Light is Belief” programme has so far provided optical health check-ups for 133,000 people, along with training on eye-care measures for around 590,000 others./.
