HCM City (VNA) – A start-up campaign targeting students and youths was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on January 8, as part of the “One Commune, One Product” programme.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said the “One Commune, One Product” programme aims to promote the application of modern technology in the production of local key products and building of  trademarks for them, turning them into regional and national products capable of joining the value chain.

Up to 30 cities and provinces have joined the programme with 34,000 high-value products, contributing to local economic development and expanding exports.

The Deputy PM asked the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee, ministries, agencies, and localities to encourage young people to start their business via the programme, as well as introduce funding for start-up models.

First Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee Le Quoc Phong said the campaign aims to raise awareness amongst the youth about the role and importance of the rural economy and agricultural production, affording them a chance to start businesses in agriculture via exchanges with successful businesspeople.

The launch ceremony for the startup campaign was co-hosted by the HCYU Central Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

On May 7, 2018, the Prime Minister signed Decision No.490/QD-TTg approving the “One Commune, One Product” programme for the 2018-2020 period nationwide.

The programme looks to develop typical agricultural and non-agricultural products and services in each locality, and on the back of private and collective sectors, thus limiting migration from rural areas to cities and meeting the national criteria on new rural development. –VNA
