Vietnam ’s State Audit Office (VSAO) has uncovered the misuse of over 6.5 trillion VND over the last 11 months, a senior VSAO official said on Dec. 2.

Deputy State Auditor General Le Minh Khai announced the results of 99 audits that the VSAO conducted during the reviewed period at a press briefing in Hanoi .

Some of the audits dealt with the subsidies key petrol importers received during the 2006-2008 period, to make up for losses they had incurred earlier.

The other audits have been conducted at a number of big businesses, including the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC), as well as into the use of budgets by the environmental sector and the second phase of programme 135.

From their findings, the VSAO has instructed those audited to cut nearly 2.5 trillion VND from their spending and return more than 1.6 trillion VND to the State Budget.

When auditing the SCIC, the VSAO found that the corporation has still to pay 25.3 billion VND in tax which was due by the end of December 2008./.
