A number of pressing issues relating to overseas Vietnamese have been resolved under the Party Politburo’s Resolution 36, an official from the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (COV) has said.

Tran Trong Toan, COV Vice Chairman, said the visa exemption and the amendment of laws on nationality, housing and land have gone far in meeting the OV’s aspirations, facilitating their visits to relatives, tours, investment and contributions to the cause of national construction.

This once again showed the Party and State’s policy of “considering OV as an integral part and an important power source for the nation,” Toan said at a reception for a delegation of overseas Vietnamese attending the 7th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) on Sept. 30.

According to him, this year has seen a number of OV activities, such as tours on the 10th day of the third lunar month to pay homage to the Hung Kings and requiems for fallen soldiers on Con Dao island and in the central province of Quang Tri , along with a camp for overseas Vietnamese youth.

The latest event was the establishment of the Overseas Vietnamese Business Association in August.

Notably, the first conference of overseas Vietnamese will be held in Hanoi from Nov. 20-23 to mobilise the OV community’s combined efforts to boost national development.

Congratulating 17 overseas Vietnamese selected to join the VFF’s Central Committee, Toan expressed his hope that the delegates would continue their roles in community-related work, serving as a link between Vietnam and their countries of residence, and contributing to national development.

On behalf of 36 OV delegates from 20 foreign countries, Tran Thi Hue, Chairman of the OV Association in Vientiane, Laos, thanked the Party and State for the careful attention they have paid to the OV community.

She pledged to do her utmost to help the OV community develop and integrate into their local communities and make active contributions to the homeland.

According to the COV, some 4 million Vietnamese expats are living and working in nearly 100 countries and territories around the world./.
