State President Nguyen Minh Triet suggested a number of measures to boost bilateral relations in all fields while receiving Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Hanoi on July 22.

Triet told the Turkish top diplomat, who is in Vietnam to sign the ASEAN’s Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), that the two countries should make regular visits to each other at all levels in order to fully tap each country’s potential and facilitate cooperation in culture, education, science and technology.

Vietnam expected strong inflows of Turkish investors, emphasised the State leader.

Turkey has emerged as the second-largest trade partner of Vietnam in West Asia and the two countries are working hard to meet a target of 1 billion USD in two-way trade revenues.

Vietnam highly respected efforts to strengthen relations with Turkey in all fields, Triet said after expressing thanks to the host of CICA-2011 for supporting Vietnam attendance at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

He also emphasised Turkey ’s important position as a bridge to span Asia and Europe as one of reasons to boost bilateral relations.

The Turkish diplomat made similar expressions, saying Vietnam played an important role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and was a rising star in Asia for its dynamic socio-economic growth and political stability in the recent past.

These are major reasons for Turkey to boost comprehensive relations with Vietnam as well as cooperation and dialogues in the regional and international arena, said Davutoglu.

He expressed strong belief that cooperative ties between the two countries would be of significant importance to strategic relations in Asia .

As a CICA member, Turkey ’s joining in TAC, which Davutoglu said was partially thanks to the help of Vietnam in the role of ASEAN president, would gather momentum for the West Asian country to boost ties with the 10 member grouping.

President Triet is expected to visit Turkey one day as he accepted President Abdullah Gul’s invitation conveyed by Davutoglu during the meeting.

He also asked the Turkish diplomat to convey his invitation to President Abdullah Gul for a State visit to Vietnam./.
