State President Nguyen Minh Triet left Hanoi on July 14 for the 15 th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, from July 15-16.

President Triet is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, Head of the President’s Office Nguyen Van Chien, Standing Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Pham Sy Tam, and Deputy Foreign Minister, Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations, Ambassador Le Luong Minh.

During the event, the Vietnamese State leader plans to meet with high-ranking leaders of several countries to boost bilateral cooperation.

Themed “International Solidarity for Peace and Development,” this year’s summit will review the international situation and matters of common concern as well as discuss measures to cope with the negative impact of the financial-economic crisis and other global challenges, such as climate change and food security.

Participants will also put forth action plans on political, economic and social cooperation in the furtherance of NAM’s objectives./.
