State President’s decision on amnesty observed

Prisons nationwide on Aug. 30 continued to implement the State President’s decision on amnesty on the occasion of the National Day anniversary (Sept. 2).

At a ceremony to announce the decision at the Nam Ha prison in Ha Nam province, Lieut. Gen. Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security, told 108 recipients to continue striving hard and obey laws to reintegrate into the community, becoming useful persons for their families and society.

He told those who were still serving their terms at the prison to strive hard and redeem themselves to deserve the Party and State’s clemency.

While at the Hoang Tien prison in Hai Duong province, Col. Vu Ba Dac, member of the Central Amnesty Council, told the released prisoners to strive hard to reintegrate into the community and become good citizens, making contributions to building their home villages.

The prison gave amnesty to 300 prisoners on this occasion.

The Thanh Phong prison in Thanh Hoa province announced a list of 500 prisoners benefiting from the State President’s decision.

Also on this occasion, the Cai Tau prison in Ca Mau province released 253 prisoners.
On the occasion of the 66th anniversary of National Day, the State President decided to grant amnesty to 10,535 prisoners.

The recipients included 10,244 prisoners who were serving their jail terms and 291 others whose imprisonment sentences were postponed or temporarily suspended.

Eleven of the prisoners being freed were foreigners, five had been convicted of national security crimes and 111 others had been charged with making corrupt use of their positions.

They included 1,333 women, 29 aged over 70, and 150 ex-officials and civil servants./.
