Hanoi (VNA) – Seventy-six years from the greatest historical event of the country on September 2, 1945, the moral values of the national solidarity and the combination of “Party’s will and people’s consensus” have still been maintained and promoted, helping Vietnam overcome COVID-19 pandemic.

Solidarity – root of national strength

Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Vietnamese people made a great victory of the August Revolution. On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence to give birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening up a new era for the nation.

The August Revolution in 1945 and the National Day on September 2 were a great revival of a country with strong sense of mutual support and solidarity.

With this victory, the Vietnamese people rose from salves to the masters of their own nation and destiny.

The most valuable lesson learnt from the historical event is the national solidarity, which is the root of the Vietnamese strength that made up all victories.

Looking back on the history of the national construction, defence and development, it can be seen that solidarity has always been a precious tradition, the source of strength and important motivation as well as a decisive factor for all victories of the nation.

From “Party’s will”…

Promoting the nation’s solidarity tradition, during the fight against COVID-19, the Party, State and Government of Vietnam have called for solidarity from the whole society in the work, creating a synergy to push back the pandemic.

With the motto of “fighting the pandemic like fighting the enemy,” Vietnam has mobilised the engagement of the whole political system and the consensus and joint efforts from the entire society in COVID-19 prevention and control. As a result, it has successfully controlled three waves of infection, receiving recognition and appreciation from the international community.

However, in the current fourth COVID-19 wave, the virus has spread in a super fast manner, making it extremely difficult for Vietnam to control the pandemic.

Under the leadership of the Party, the Vietnamese Government has actively rolled out measures to respond to the pandemic with flexible solutions for particular periods, while continuing to call for national solidarity in the fight.

On July 29, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made a call to Vietnamese people and soldiers as well as Vietnamese community abroad to join hands in COVID-19 fight.

“I deeply believe that with the joint efforts of the whole Party and people, the coherence in the will and action as well as support from the Vietnamese community abroad, we will surely overcome COVID-19 pandemic, and we will make it,” stated the Party chief.

At the launching of the National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund on June 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the history of national construction and defence proves that whenever the nation faces difficulties, the spirit of solidarity and strength of the people become the sharpest weapon helping us overthrow all enemies and make glorious victories, which is the same as President Ho Chi Minh’s saying “As easy as it is, nothing will be completed without the people’s support. As difficult as it is, anything will be done with people’s support.”

“In the fight against COVID-19, the people’s consensus is the key for Vietnam to get rid of the pandemic and return to normal life of peace, good social welfare and safety,” stated the PM.

…to people’s consensus

Responding to the call, the whole community has engaged in the fight against COVID-19.

In the current fourth wave of the pandemic, dozens of thousands of doctors, medical workers, military and public security soldiers and officers have been mobilised for the fight. From northern and central localities, they have voluntarily come to Ho Chi Minh City and southern localities to help them push back the pandemic.

In all residential areas, frontline forces are working hard day and night to prevent the spreading of the pandemic. They have come to each household to get the information, providing them with necessities and medical consultations, while serving as a spiritual base for them.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien said that the frontline forces have made great sacrifices, with many of them exposed to the virus and even many laying down their lives for the health of the people.

He noted that the VFF has seen rising donations from the society to support COVID-19 prevention and control activities, with the amount so far reaching over 7 trillion VND.

Right on the launching day, the programme to support pandemic-hit people in southern localities received 600,000 gift packages worth 180 billion VND, he said.

During the difficult time, people in areas that have not applied social distancing have mobilised dozens of tonnes of food and foodstuffs and necessities for those in areas under social distancing.

Meanwhile, many effective models such as oxygen ATM, rice ATMs, zero-dong market and zero-dong meal have been implemented to help millions of needy people. All the mutual support and sharing have helped ease the difficulties caused by the pandemic, he said.

In any position, all Vietnamese people have been clearly aware of their responsibility, thus making their own contributions to the fight. It can be seen that the tradition is being continued and promoted right amid the tough time of the nation. With that strength, the Vietnamese people will surely overcome all challenges and continue to make new miracles in the national construction and defence cause./.
