A total of 653,532 students showed up for the first examination day, accounting for 75.83 percent of the total of registrations for taking university entrance exams across the country or a 6.2 percent rise against last year.

The students were seated at 25,233 examination rooms at 997 locations to compete for admissions to 83 universities and academies.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) sent two inspection groups to randomly check the solemnity and order at test locations, one led by MoET Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia to the Hanoi Open University and the other led by her counterpart Nguyen Vinh Hien, to the Academy of Cryptography Techniques .

The inspectors said the first examination day took place in an orderly and displiciplined atmosphere and test regulations were tightened.

Draft report made by the MoET after the first half of July 4 said of the total sitting students, eight have been suspended from doing their tests for violating regulations such as use of mobilephones or bringing study materials into test rooms. Four others were not allowed to take the exam due to late arrivals./.
