Summer camp encourages poor to study English

A five-day summer camp was opened at the Cat Ba island resort, in the northern port city of Hai Phong, on August 12 for 16 children winning the US Government’s Access Scholarships for their excellent English.

The scholarship winners, from poorfamilies on the outskirts of Hanoi , are the first batch ofbeneficiaries since the programme kicked off in Vietnam in 2009 toencourage poor children aged from 14 to 18 to study extra Englishclasses.

Campers are sure to improve their commandof English through communicating with native speaking teachers from theUS and experts from foreign non-Governmental organisationsparticipating./.

Ministry proposes seven-day 2027 Lunar New Year holiday

Under the Ministry of Home Affairs' proposal, civil servants and public employees in Vietnam would receive five statutory days off, including two days before and three days after the Lunar New Year. As two of those days fall on the weekend, they would receive two additional compensatory days off, bringing the total holiday to seven consecutive days.
