A five-day summer camp was opened at the Cat Ba island resort, in the northern port city of Hai Phong , on August 12 for 16 children winning the US Government’s Access Scholarships for their excellent English.

The scholarship winners, from poor families on the outskirts of Hanoi , are the first batch of beneficiaries since the programme kicked off in Vietnam in 2009 to encourage poor children aged from 14 to 18 to study extra English classes.

Campers are sure to improve their command of English through communicating with native speaking teachers from the US and experts from foreign non-Governmental organisations participating./.
