Lam Dong (VNA) – More than 1 million volunteer youngsters joined the three-month 2017 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, according to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee.

The youths, who formed 26,581 teams, took part in various programmes to support students during exams, as well as the needy in poor areas, especially coastal and island localities.

Especially, 706 people of 32 teams joined volunteer activities in Laos and Cambodia.

In summer 2017, the young volunteers helped repair nearly 3,000km of rural roads and more than 1,700 houses and build nearly 800 bridges, while providing free health check-ups and medicine to 381,000 people, upgrading 1,762 playing grounds for children, and transferring technology to over 85,000 people.

Le Quoc Phong, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee and President of the Vietnamese Students’ Association, said that the 2017 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign reached all set targets.

On the occasion, the Central Committee presented certificates of merit to 18 collectives and six individuals with outstanding contributions to the success of the campaign.-VNA
