A programme to conduct free surgery for 200 poor patients who suffer from cataract started in the central province of Quang Nam on March 16 with funding provided by the Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company of Japan.

Besides patients in Quang Nam, the 300 million VND (14,100 USD) programme will also benefit over 250 poor people in other localities.

The same day, the Association for Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin Victims of the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre granted 116 scholarships to AO child victims.

The scholarships worth 94.5 million VND (4,400 USD) were funded by the Vietnam’s Friends Association in France (Les Amis du Vietnam) and Vo Thi Hao, an overseas Vietnamese in Canada.-VNA
