Known as the “land of birds,” Thung Nham Bird Park, situated within the Thung Nham Ecotourism Area in Ninh Binh province, is the largest natural bird sanctuary in northern Vietnam and is actively managed and preserved.

About 200 Asian openbills, an endangered species listed in Vietnam’s Red Book, have resided in Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary, the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu, since the beginning of 2019.

Site support groups (SSGs) have been set up in Vietnam by BirdLife International since 2002, proving effective in conserving important bird areas (IBAs) of the country.
