Vietnam's e-commerce sector is entering a new phase of development as the Law on E-commerce officially takes effect on July 1. Beyond providing a clearer legal framework for online business, the new law is expected to address long-standing shortcomings, strengthen consumer confidence and support the sustainable growth of the digital marketplace.
At the national launch ceremony, scheduled for the afternoon of March 28, representatives of ministries and agencies, social organisations and businesses are expected to make commitments affirming their responsibility to comply with the law, provide safe and transparent products, and help build consumer confidence and a fair marketplace.
Party committees, Party organisations, and all-level state management agencies are urged to focus their leadership and direction on key tasks, including protecting consumer rights on cyberspace; clarifying inter-sectoral responsibilities in goods control; analysing and assessing consumption trends in the digital era; and effectively combating the production and trade of counterfeit goods and imitations.
As Thailand and Vietnam share similarities, enhanced cooperation and information exchange would improve legal enforcement of competition and consumer rights protection in both nations.
