The committee instructed local authorities to closely track forecasts and warnings from the NCHMF and promptly notify vessel owners, captains and fishermen to take preventive action and adjust production plans.
Under the decision, the committee serves as an inter-agency coordinating body tasked with advising the Government and the Prime Minister on organising, directing and overseeing civil defence activities and disaster-related states of emergency nationwide.
Total economic losses were estimated at about 255 billion VND (nearly 9.7 million USD), with Lai Chau accounting for the largest share of the damage with 190 billion VND, followed by Son La with 46.04 billion VND, Lao Cai with 16.7 billion VND, and Dien Bien with 2.3 billion VND.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who also heads the National Civil Defence Steering Committee, has signed a decision on the establishment of the online portal of the committee.
Localities were directed to deploy forces to guard flooded and landslide-prone areas, restrict traffic in unsafe zones, and prevent fatalities caused by negligence.
PM Pham Minh Chinh stressed that natural disaster prevention and response forms a vital part of national defence, especially for Vietnam, a country vulnerable to natural disasters.
