Held under the theme "Quantum Connectivity – Mastering Technology – Breakthrough Development", Quantum Year 2026 centres on four pillars: science, technology, education and training, and innovation ecosystem development.
Stronger networks linking government agencies, research institutes, universities, businesses and scientific organisations will provide a solid foundation for faster and more effective development of quantum technology, contributing to the sustainable development of each country and the region as a whole, said a Gia Lai official.
Vietnam’s challenge is not merely to train more engineers or scientists, but to cultivate a generation capable of mastering, improving and eventually creating core technologies.
Experts urged that developing post-quantum cryptography and protecting national digital infrastructure must begin immediately.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam emphasised that quantum technology is an entirely new, highly complex and rapidly evolving field closely linked to science and technology, national security, digital transformation, strategic industries and the country’s long-term competitiveness.
Vietnam should prioritise investment in key quantum laboratories toward establishing a National Quantum Research Centre; develop long-term human resources training programmes; build a supportive innovation ecosystem through regulatory sandboxes and targeted investment funds; and strengthen international cooperation with leading global research institutions.
The RoK is also Vietnam’s largest foreign investor. As of the end of September, Korean investors operated 10,301 valid projects with combined registered capital of 94.2 billion USD, topping both capital value and number of projects among 154 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Korean enterprises contribute roughly 30% of Vietnam’s total export value.
The meeting also endorsed the proposed National Quantum Policy, beginning with the establishment of a National Quantum Task Force to strengthen preparedness in addressing quantum technology advancements and the Q-Day threat, which can compromise the country’s data security and digital infrastructure.
Russia's Rosatom has expressed strong interest in fostering collaboration with Vietnam in quantum technology.
