Vietnam remains an important partner for Sri Lanka in Southeast Asia, and affirmed Sri Lanka’s intention to expand collaboration in mutually beneficial fields, said Dr Dammika Patabendi, Sri Lankan Minister of Environment and Chairman of the Sri Lanka–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group.
As the two countries share many similarities in history, geography, and culture, they have had longstanding connections even before establishing consular relations in 1964, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam told the Vietnam News Agency.
The meeting highlighted Sri Lanka's keen interest in attracting Vietnamese investment, particularly in transport infrastructure development.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam had a meeting with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on October 3 during which she affirmed that Vietnam always attaches much importance to the traditional friendship with the South Asian country.
