Vietnam-US joint vision statement adopted

Vietnam and the US adopted on July 7 (local time) a joint vision statement between the two countries on the occasion of the official visit to the US by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong from July 6-10 at the invitation of the US administration.

The statement recognises the positive and substantive developments in many areas of cooperation over the past 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and affirms continued pursuit of a deepened, sustained, and substantive relationship on the basis of respect for the United Nations Charter, international law, and each other’s political systems.
