Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung has expressed his
congratulations to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on the victory of
the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) in the July 28 general election .
The main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) has declared
its refusal to be part of a joint committee of the National Election
Committee (NEC), which was set up to investigate alleged irregularities
in the country’s recent poll.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on August 2 that there will be
no political deadlock for the establishment of the upcoming National
Assembly and Government.
The royalist FUNCINPEC Party of Cambodia on July 30 called for
the establishment of an independent committee to investigate
irregularities during the fifth general election, which took place on
July 28.
Vietnam congratulates Cambodia on the success of its fifth general
election and believes that Cambodia will continue developing with
peace, stability and prosperity, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson
Luong Thanh Nghi.
Voting began at 7 a.m at 19,009 polling stations throughout Cambodia
on July 28 morning in the country’s fifth general election, with more
than 9.6 million Cambodians expected to cast their ballots, according to
the National Election Committee (NEC).
The Cambodian National Assembly at its extraordinary session in Phnom
Penh on June 7 passed the Law on Denial of Crimes Committed during the
Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979).
