Four trains which will be used for Cat Linh-Ha Dong elevated railway have been delivered to Hanoi.

The planned pilot run of the first elevated train in Hanoi next month will be delayed amid lagging construction progress and financial difficulties.

Rail tracks located in the inner city have caused problems for Hanoi’s traffic, however, this will be addressed in the future when city planning is completed.

The China Eximbank has disbursed 18.25 million USD for the Cat Linh – Ha Dong Railway Project, said Vu Hong Phuong, Deputy Director General of the Railway Project Management Unit, on May 16.

The Government has told the Ministry of Transport (MoT) to put the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway into operation by the first quarter of 2018.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has urged relevant ministries and agencies to speed up construction of two key rail projects in Hanoi.

The first train of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway has been installed safely on the track, the Railway Projects Management Unit (under the Ministry of Transport) announced on February 21.

The Cat Linh – Ha Dong elevated urban railway in Hanoi will begin its test run, expected to last between three and six months, on October 1.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved a special mechanism for completion of Hanoi’s Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway project in an effort to overcome numerous delays and cost overruns.

The Cat Linh-Ha Dong elevated railway is scheduled to be put into trial operation in October this year and officially launched on December 31 this year.

Both Vietnamese and English will be used parallel for all directions on Cat Linh–Ha Dong urban railway trains, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The public has suggested changing the design and colour of the overhead train prototype for the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway project in Hanoi, the Railway Project Management Unit said.

Transport Minister Dinh La Thang has said the construction of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong Railway Project should be speeded up so that commercial operations could begin by June 30, 2016.
