October sees slight CPI increase

The consumer price index (CPI) in October rose by 0.37 percent against September, a slightly lower than the level of 0.62 percent in the previous month.

According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), the index jumped by 2.99 percent over the same period last year, and the CPI for the first ten months of the year increased by 7.17 percent compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam likely to reach poverty reduction target by 2010

Despite worries over the increase in the consumer price index (CPI) and the impacts of the global economic crisis, it is believed that Vietnam will reach its target of reducing the poverty rate to 10-11 percent by 2010.

Representatives from the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) and UNDP revealed this at a meeting to release a mid-term review of the National Targeted Programme for Poverty Reduction between 2006 and 2010 on Oct. 2.
