The People’s Committee of Hanoi has set up a plan for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in the city by 2030.

Encouraging results have been recorded in the transition of financial resources for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Vietnam over the last 10 years, heard a conference in Hanoi on November 23.

The Health Ministry’s Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) launched a campaign on HIV prevention on November 17.

Vietnam hopes to provide anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment to about 160,000 people living with HIV/AIDS this year, said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

WHO appreciates Vietnam's efforts to put new treatments and services to bring benefits to people infected with HIV/ADIS, said Dr. Kidong Park, the WHO Representative in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, since the first infection was detected in 1990 in Ho Chi Minh City, there are 213,008 HIV carriers who are still alive and 107,812 deaths from HIV/AIDS.

A total 213,097, or 85 percent of all people in Vietnam infected with HIV, were aware of their status as of September, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) under the Health Ministry, the US Embassy and several international organisations held a seminar in Hanoi on August 30 to discuss the private sector’s participation in Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS prevention and control programme.

A project on helping children living with HIV or affected by HIV/AIDS benefit from their legal rights was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on July 30.
