A rally in penny stocks lifted the VN-Index for a third straight day on
Oct.25, with the index closing up 0.76 percent to 448.61 points, even in
the face of bad news about the nation's inflation rate.
The VN-Index closed up a modest 0.13 percent Sept. 22 to 453.9 points,
while the volume of trade on the HCM Stock Exchange declined by a
whopping 42 percent from the previous day's level to just 33.3 million
shares, worth a combined 907 billion VND (46.5 million USD).
Trading volume on the HCM Stock Exchange on August 31 leapt by 64
percent over August 30's session to a total of 54.2 million shares,
helping lift the VN-Index to close at 455.08 points, a gain of 2.37
percent on the day.
Slumping global markets concerned over China’s slowing economic growth,
an unexpected decline in US consumer confidence, and Japanese
unemployment level, depressed the domestic markets on June 30, dragging
down indices on both national stock exchanges
Sluggish trading in blue chips on the HCM Stock Exchange on June 17 held
the VN-Index to a close of 510.76, largely unchanged from the previous
session.
Hoa Phat Group Co (HPG) has bought up nearly all outstanding shares in
the Hoa Phat Energy Joint Stock Co, increasing its stake from 50 percent
to 99.86 percent and turning the energy firm into the group's 11th
subsidiary.
A strong rebound by blue chips on the
two national stock exchanges on May 20 rescued the market from the
threat of a prolonged downtrend, with indices soaring after several
sessions of steep declines.
The VN-Index rose for a fourth
consecutive session on April 27, with capital still pouring into large
cap shares, although volumes on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange declined
from the previous session.
Investors sought to cash in on last
week’s rally on Aug. 17, and heavy profit-taking pulled the VN-Index
back down to 500.08, a decline on the day of 1.36 percent.
An increase in buys at the very end of
August 6’s session on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange enabled the
VN-Index to stave off pressure from profit-takers earlier in the day,
allowing the Index to close almost unchanged at 481.44, a gain of just
0.03 percent.
