China is likely to become the biggest foreign investor in Laos in the near
future thanks to its increasing flow of investment into the Southeast Asia
nation.
Labour Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and her
Lao counterpart Onchan Thammavong are meeting in Da Nang city for a ministerial conference on labour cooperation.
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh
received in Hanoi on Aug. 4 a Lao Government delegation led by
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad.
Vietnam and Laos have agreed that human resources
development remains a key success to build on, among others, in the
second half of 2009, as one result of the Inter-Governmental Committee
meeting in the central border province of Nghe An from August 1-3.
The International Cooperation Company
has handed over the just-completed project on border villages in the
northern province of Houaphanh, Laos , to the provincial authority.
A Vietnamese company, Hoang Anh Gia
Lai, will carry out an investment project to plant rubber trees and
build a factory for rubber processing in southern Laos.
The Lao government has received, on
average, 400 million USD in aid each year from foreign countries and
international development and financial agencies to help the country
carry out economic development and poverty reduction programmes.
The Lao government wishes to welcome more Vietnamese investors as they have been making active contributions to the country’s socio-economic development.
