Cassava exports double this year

Businesses foremost in fostering an export revival

Vietnam’s exports are on track to bounce back, not just only because of the government’s management policy, but also due to the efforts of various state run enterprises, said an official from the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham).

The Director of EuroCham’s Hanoi Office, Matthias Duehn, said at a seminar to promote exports in Hanoi on Oct. 12, that despite having faced many difficulties resulting from the global economic crisis, particularly in exports, Vietnam is likely to post a GDP growth rate of 5 percent this year.

Sales of goods and services soar

Total turnover for goods and services in the first nine months of the year surged by 18.6 percent year-on-year to 845.4 trillion VND (47.2 billion USD) thanks to a series of Government stimulus measures and promotional programmes, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The GSO said that business turnover reached 662.5 trillion VND (37 billion USD), up 19 percent over the same period last year.

In the first half of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade granted licences for the franchise deals of 15 overseas companies, mostly from the US, Belgium and Canada, in the food and beverage, fashion and information technology industries in Vietnam.

The figure reflected a noticeable growing interest from foreign groups in franchise operations in Vietnam, where the consumer market is getting more powerful and the population has now reached 85 million people.
