A joyful atmosphere filled tourist sites across Hanoi despite the cold
weather as thousands flocked to the sites to enjoy the New
Year holiday (January 1-4).
Architectural and cultural experts together with local leaders share the
same view on the need to preserve the present vista around Hoan Kiem
Lake in Hanoi.
Some 60 art performances will be held across Hanoi between October 9 and
11 to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day
(October 10), according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports
and Tourism.
Nine national relic sites in Hanoi are being featured in a photograph
exhibition that opened at the Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of
Literature) on September 24.
The Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica has
unstintingly praised the beauty of Vietnam’s northern region and
suggested attractive destinations for foreign tourists, including Hanoi,
Ha Long Bay and those in northern mountainous provinces.
Ambassadors of the 2014 Earth Hour campaign joined some 1,000 students
from the Hanoi University at an exchange programme on March 24 to
popularise the drive.
Hanoi welcomed 4.87 million domestic tourists and 705,000 foreign
arrivals in the first quarter of 2014, up 8 percent and 15 percent
respectively from the same period last year.
Hanoi is orchestrating a range of activities to respond to the 2014
Earth Hour campaign, with the key event to be televised live from August
Square in front of the Hanoi Opera House at 8pm on March 29.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam handed over to Hanoi representatives
certificates recognising five historic places in the city as special
national relic sites at a ceremony held in the capital on February 22.
Hanoi has so far welcomed over 2.6 million domestic and foreign arrivals
during the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday that began on
January 27 and will end on February 9.
The capital city of Hanoi plans to welcome 3 million foreign tourists
this year with a hospitable and safe environment for both visitors and
enterprises.
Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to upgrade the
historical relic sites of Hoan Kiem Lake, The Temple of Literature and
Hoa Lo Prison.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has asked the National
Cultural Heritage Council to recognise 13 heritage sites in seven
provinces and cities as special national relics.
Sixty-seven graphic
pictures of Vietnamese contemporary artists engraved on wood, zinc and
stone were displayed in an exhibition held at the Vietnamese Culture
Centre in Paris on April 27.
The capital city of Hanoi has received 2.08 million tourists, including
60,000 foreigners, during the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival,
an increase of 11 percent from the same period last year.
As part of the ongoing flower festival at the Vietnam Centre for Art
and Cultural Exhibitions at 2 Hoa Lu Street, the first ever festival
honouring Ong Cong (the Land Genie) and Ong Tao (the Kitchen God) will
be held on February 3.
The capital city of Hanoi will switch off its lighting system in a
number of public areas and streets from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on March 31
to support this year’s Earth Hour.
