Thirteen individuals and two organisations were honoured at the 12th Vietnam Glory programme held in Hanoi on July 28 with National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in attendance.
Vietnam is aiming to have 10-15 athletes competing at the 2016 Summer
Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in shooting, athletics, swimming,
gymnastics, fencing and weight-lifting, according to the General
Department of Sports and Physical Training.
Vietnam will focus on Olympic sports following the success of the
country’s athletes in these competitions at the 28th Southeast Asian
(SEA) Games, with a hope of consolidating its position in the region and
competing in bigger arenas, including the Asian Games and Olympic
Games.
Superstar swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a gold medal at the women’s
200m breaststroke on the last day of the swimming competition of the
ongoing 28th Southeast Asian Games.
Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien continued her impressive performance at the
ongoing 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 28) in Singapore on June
9 with a new record in the women’s 200m butterfly.
With eight gold medals, five silvers and nine bronzes on the second day
of the ongoing 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore (June 7),
Vietnam was at second place on the medal tally with 21 gold medals,
eight silvers and 21 bronzes.
The predominantly young swimming squad has set a target to win at least
10 gold medals at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, a first in the
history of Vietnam's sport.

which will kick off later this week.
Vietnam have been set a goal of
winning from 60 to 70 gold medals to rank in the top three at the 28th
Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be held in Singapore from June 5-16.
Vietnam's top female swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a gold medal in the
women's 200m medley at the 2015 United States National Swimming
Championships on March 27.
Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien is expected to defend her title at the Best
Athletes and Coaches of 2014, which is being held on December 30 in
three cities across the nation.
Vietnam's 199 athletes have won a total of 36 medals, including
victories for the first time in several Olympic sports, at the 17th
Asian Games which concludes on October 4.
Nguyen Thi Anh Vien grabbed a bronze medal in the women’s 400m
individual medley event on September 23 at the ongoing Asian Games
(ASIAD) in Incheon, the Republic of Korea.
A send-off ceremony was held in Hanoi on September 13 for the
Vietnamese delegation to the 17 th Asian Games (ASIAD 17), held in
Incheon, the Republic of Korea, from September 19 to October 4.
