The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) convened a meeting on October 4 to review the implementation of Resolution 2118, issued in 2013, on the issue of chemical weapons in Syria.
Vietnam has reiterated the consistent policy in favour of non-proliferation and disarmament regimes, as well as the country’s support for the role of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in ridding the world of chemical weapons.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy to support non-proliferation and disarmament of all weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons, during a United Nations Security council meeting on April 6.
Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of Vietnam at the UN, reiterated that Vietnam categorically condemns the use of chemical weapons in any form, by anyone, anywhere and under any circumstances during an UN Security Council (UNSC)’s open video teleconference (VTC) on February 3.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, on April 15 reiterated Vietnam’s viewpoints on condemning all use of chemical weapons.
Vietnam always constructively coordinates with other members of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) to raise the significance of the disarmament of weapons of mass destruction in general and chemical weapons in particular, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai.
ASEAN Foreign Ministers on April 24 issued a statement on the situation in Syria, urging all involved parties to work towards a sustainable political solution through dialogue and negotiation.
