Xoan-singing clubs in the ancestral land of Phu Tho have become busier welcoming both domestic and foreign tourists after the folk genre of music was added to the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in late 2017.
Hat Then (Then singing) with handmade gourd lute called “Dan Tinh” is a distinctive musical genre of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam.
Lang Son encouraged the establishment of local Then singing clubs to promote the development of this genre of traditional singing – a typical culture of Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic people in the northern mountainous region.
