Vietnam raked in 124.8 million USD from tra fish exports to members
of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2013,
representing a year-on-year increase of 13 percent, said Vietnam
Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The value of tra fish ( pangasius ) exports is expect to fall slightly
next year due to a lack of raw materials, difficulty in obtaining loans
for investments and losses by farmers.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and
Belgium’s Port of Zeebrugge have recently signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a tra fish distribution
centre in the European Union (EU).
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has
voiced its objection to the anti-dumping tax rates on imported
Vietnamese tra fish imposed by the preliminary decision of the US
Department of Commerce (DOC) after the ninth administrative review
(POR9).
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi has asked the US
Department of Commerce (DOC) not to impose an anti-dumping tax on
Vietnam’s frozen tra fillets and other aquatic products.
Vietnam ’s Directorate of Fisheries has voiced its strong opposition to
the US Department of Commerce’s decision to choose Indonesia as the
sole benchmark country to calculate the anti-dumping rate on Vietnam
’s tra fish, saying that it will bring the case to the US Court of
International Trade.
Fisheries remain to be a leading hard currency earner in agriculture,
recording over 4.9 billion USD in the 2010 export revenue or a 17
percent increase year on year.
VASEP has
confirmed that the US Department of Commerce (DOC) increase in its
antidumping tariff on Vietnam’s tra (Pangasius) fish runs counter to the
letter and spirit of the free trade agreements between Vietnam and the
US.
The number of businesses exporting aquatic products to Brazil has now
increased to four, double that of 2009, said the Vietnam Association for
Seafood Exporters and Producers.
The price of tra fish exports to Russia
has been stabilised thanks to good management of a newly-established
steering committee on the export to the market, an executive has said.
