At least eight people, including an infant, were killed after a two-storey boarding house in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia, caught fire on May 29.

A boarding house of the Thuan Mang Junior High School in northern mountainous Bac Kan province was inaugurated on September 7, accommodating disadvantaged students living far away from their school.
