A high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence
led by its Deputy Minister, Lieut. Gen. Truong Quang Khanh, paid a
working visit to Israel from September 11-15.
The Defence Ministries of Vietnam and Sri Lanka will strengthen
cooperation through exchanging high-ranking delegations, language
training and sharing experience in army building, mine and bomb
clearance and the defence industry.

delegation on an official working visit to Vietnam in Hanoi on

The 13 th Asia-Pacific Security Forum opened in the Republic of
Korea ’s (RoK) capital, Seoul , on October 18 with senior defence
officials from 26 regional countries in attendance.
ASEAN Member States are moving forward with cooperation and integration
to build Southeast Asia into a region of peace, stability and
development. The ASEAN Charter coming into effect has ushered in a new
era of regional cooperation that would lead to the creation of a strong
ASEAN Community by 2015 with three pillars – Political-Security
Community, Economic Community and Socio-Cultural Community. ASEAN has
been also boosting its cooperation with external partners to enhance
broader peace, stability and development.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reached an
overwhelming agreement on strengthening defence cooperation for a
regional stability and development at a defence ministerial meeting
(ADMM-4), which closed in Hanoi on May 11.
State President Nguyen Minh Triet has
urged the army to quickly develop the defence industry modernise its
weaponry and military technologies and increase its tactical skills.
The ASEAN defence ministers gathered in
Bangkok on November 3 to decide whether to expand ties with powers
outside the region, including the US and Russia , as they address
complex transnational security challenges.
Malaysia will be made a hub for the production of defence equipment and parts to be used for the development of the regional defence industry, the country’s Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said.
Malaysian Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi
said on July 7 that Malaysia will propose setting up an ASEAN Defence
Industry Council to promote regional cooperation in this field expand
the market for member countries’ defence products.
