The sixth international conference on Vetiver grass with the theme
“Vetiver System: Empowering Sustainable Development” opened on May 6 in
central Da Nang City.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai requested the Ministry of
Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Hanoi People’s
Committee to speed up projects to clean up and improve the Day, Tich and
Nhue Rivers in the city.

Over 6,550 metres of river embankment in Phong Dien district, central
Thua Thien-Hue province, has been accomplished at a total cost of 49
billion VND (2.3 million USD) from the flood remediation fund, said
Nguyen Dai Vui, Chairman of the district People’s Committee.
The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho plans to spend 8 trillion VND (376
million USD) building irrigation systems to prevent inundations in
flood-prone areas from now to 2020.
The Mekong Delta localities have planned to build irrigation works in a
bid to better respond to climate change in the coming time, according to
the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region.
Flood experts have called for the Ho Chi Minh City government to adopt
drastic measures to control flooding here in the city; otherwise, the
city will not be able to solve this chronic problem in future, the
Saigon Times Daily reported.
Over 200m of steel embankment was completed in the central province of
Quang Nam as an urgent intervention to prevent tidal waves from
encroaching on Cua Dai beach.
In the Mekong Delta, Ca Mau, Kien Giang and An Giang provinces and Can
Tho City have invested approximately 2.4 trillion VND (112.84 million
USD) to build five major infrastructure development projects to
tackle climate change from now to 2020.
The Southern province of Bac Lieu are implementing 16 projects worth
3.3 trillion VND (166.9 million USD) during the 2012-2020 period in an
effort to address climate change.
Can Tho city's Department of Planning and Investment has approved
investing more than 1 trillion VND (47.2 million USD) in Government
bonds to build an embankment along the Can Tho River.
Linh Ung Pagoda is located in an area known locally as Bai But or
Buddha’s Sanctuary on Son Tra peninsula. It is rated as the most
magnificent work of this kind in the central city of Da Nang , in
terms of architectural and artistic value.
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has decided to invest 492
billion VND (23 million USD) in upgrading the city’s embankment and
drainage systems in 2014 and 2015.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will spend 155 billion VND (7.4
million USD) from the city's budget to build a 2.3 km embankment along
the Sai Gon River to prevent erosion at the Cu Chi Tunnels historical
site in Cu Chi district.
An increase in sea levels
over the last ten years is responsible for the disappearance of many
beautiful beaches and parts of protected forests in the central province
of Quang Nam, which boasts a 125km coastline.
