UNFPA Regional Director of Asia and the Pacific Bjorn Andersson on October 4 spoke highly of Vietnam's efforts in addressing son preference and gender-biased sex selection over the last 15 years.
It is important to encourage the involvement of men in efforts to end the issue of gender-biased sex selection (GBSS) in Vietnam, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Vietnam Naomi Kitahara stressed on March 7.
The Norwegian Government and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) have reaffirmed their strong commitment to cooperating with and supporting Vietnam at the national and sub-national levels in ending gender biased sex selection (GBSS), for a brighter future for the next generation of Vietnamese.
A contest on making a short clip with the theme “Girls deserve to shine” was launched in Hanoi on August 10, with the aim of raising public awareness about gender-biased sex selection in pregnancies.
A new programme dealing with gender-biased sex selection and harmful practices in Vietnam will be carried out from 2020 to 2022, the UN Population Fund and the Norwegian Government announced on April 10.
