Sixty gong troupes from five Asian
countries and 24 cities and provinces in Vietnam kicked off the first
International Gong Festival in the Central Highland province of Gia Lai
on Nov. 12 night.
Forty troupes from both inside and
outside the country will attend the International Gong Festival, to be
held in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai from Nov. 12-15.
The 2009 International Gong Festival
will be organised for the first time in the Central Highlands province
of Gia Lai’s Pleiku city from November 12-15.
Ca Tru (ceremonial singing) has been
listed as a cultural heritage in need of urgent protection by the
United Nation’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(UNESCO).
The atmosphere in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai these days is
heating up with preparations for the International Gong Festival which is
scheduled to be organised on Nov. 12-15.
Central Highlands Gia Lai province will
organise an international gong festival in Pleiku city from November
12-15, the provincial People’s Committee said on August 7.
Local authorities in the Central
Highlands province of Kon Tum are joining hands to preserve 12 sets of
precious gongs that are possessed by the Brau ethnic minority group in
Bo Y commune.
