Music experts have called on
administrations at all levels to take part in promoting “Xoan” songs
among all classes of people to conserve this fading folk music of the
midland province of Phu Tho.
A wide range of activities will take place in the northern province of Phu Tho
to celebrate the death anniversary of the Hung King and the opening of the Hung
Temple Festival, to take place from April 14 to 23.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and
Tourism (MoCST) officially announced 10 outstanding cultural, sports
and tourism activities in 2009 in the central city of Da Nang on
Dec. 27.
The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is
building up a file on Dan ca tai tu Nam bo (Southern amateur music) to
be submitted to the UNESCO for recognition as an intangible cultural
heritage, said a provincial official.

recognised by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural
heritage.
Ca Tru (ceremonial singing) has been
listed as a cultural heritage in need of urgent protection by the
United Nation’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(UNESCO).
“Quan Ho Bac Ninh” singing (Bac Ninh
folk love duets) has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage
of Humanity at the fourth session of the UNESCO International
Committee, in Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
The atmosphere in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai these days is
heating up with preparations for the International Gong Festival which is
scheduled to be organised on Nov. 12-15.
A forum to promote investment in the Central Highlands
wrapped up in Buon Ma Thuot city on September 5 with more than 120
projects in various industries in the region sealed.
Almost 60 projects were inked in farm-forestry processing, 24 in
tourism, 20 in industry, eight in urban development and 10 in health
care, education and transport at the Forum on Investment Promotion for
the Central Highlands, initiated by the Central Highlands Steering
Committee, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Central
Highlands provinces.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked international
consultants to focus on preserving the tangible and intangible values
of Hanoi ’s old quarter and developing linkages between the city and
other localities while working on a master plan for the city toward
2030.
A website to introduce the capital city
of Hanoi’s thousand-year history, as well as the tangible and
intangible cultural traditions, of the country in general and Hanoi’s
ancient citadel in particular, went on-line on Aug. 11.
