The Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has performed 1,127 kidney transplants since 1992, heard an event held by the medical establishment on March 16.

Doctors at Hanoi’s Viet Duc Friendship Hospital has successfully conducted a heart transplant on a seven-year-old child, the youngest recipient ever in Vietnam, the hospital said on February 5.

Vietnam has successfully performed nearly 1,400 organ transplant surgeries over the past 20 years, said Le Quang Cuong, Deputy Minister of Health.

More than 1,400 people have registered to donate organs and tissue, setting a new record in Vietnam, at a festival entitled Joining Hands for Life, on December 19 in Hanoi.

Vietnamese doctors have successfully performed 1,500 kidney transplants, 50 liver transplants and 13 heart cases to date.
