Leading market analysts are forecasting Vietnamese exports to the US of
litchi and longans to soar to over 1,800 tonnes annually, radio The
Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reported on September 9.
The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has decided to boost the
application of post-harvest technology in agricultural production to be
able to gain stronger foothold in global markets, the Vietnam Economic
News reported.
Fruit and vegetable export earnings grew by 32.2% to 215 million USD
during the first quarter of the year and are expected to hit a record
high of 1.2 billion USD this year, radio The Voice of Vietnam (VOV)
reported.
The Hanoi Crop Development Centre recently reviewed the pilot model for
the intensive cultivation of late-ripening longan in Dai Thanh Commune,
Hoai Duc District. The economic efficiency of the model is reported as
six to seven times higher than rice cultivation and also the highest
among fruits. The Vietnam Economic News Online reports.

Vietnam is a new phenomenon in economic development in the world and
it is a potential market for RoK businesses, affirmed a representative
of the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA).
Fruit and vegetable exports in the
first nine months of this year were worth 320 million USD, a
year-on-year increase of 3.5 percent, according to the Ministry of
Agriculture and Rural Development.
Exports in September alone were worth 38 million USD, the ministry said.
Vietnam exported 278 million USD worth
of fruits and vegetables – including the first-ever shipment of
red-fleshed dragon fruits to the US – and imported 166 million USD in
the first eight months of the year, according to the General Statistic
Office.
